about

I don’t have much to say about this song. But I think the theme of it resonates through everything I do. We are all a product of the actions of the folks who surround us and lift us up. This album is the result of hundreds of people giving their time, their money, their love, and their support. The song mentions my Moms, Dad, Sister and friends, you are all wonderful for all the reasons I hope I’ve taken the time to say.

Joe and Luke at Stormy Muffin are the absolute best. I have never felt so understood by any technicians backing me up as I work. Every time they asked for another take it was always a toss-up between weather we needed it or they just wanted to hear it again. These fellas didn’t bat an eye when I said my album included instruments like typewriters, banjos, accordions or brass instruments played with sticks from the woods. Top marks!

I didn’t mention them on specific tracks in these notes but my session musicians were spectacular. Aaron Long (Trombone) is always a credit to any group he plays with, often with no rehearsal he sounds better than founding members of bands. Before the session I had not met Johnny Wade (Upright Bass), he was a fantastic surprise and help pull several songs together in the best way. Likewise Steve Baz (Drums) came in an unknown, immediately understood the slow motion Rube Goldberg machine of noise that is my sound, and killed it. Margeaux, Florian, Caylean and Lulu were such wonderful friends to answer the call and stop by the studio to yell at microphones.

I want to give a special shout-out to Shawnee Kilgore. Even though she doesn’t appear on this album, in a way her fingerprints are all over it. She has been a tremendous influence on my music and performances for years.

Finally, a shout out to all of my Kickstarter Backers, this album would not exist without each and every last one of you!

lyrics

Someone brought this, ooh lookit that! What a marvelous feast.
Some of it’s vegan, and some of it’s not, such a lovely repast.
Someone once said, potlucks are the worst, my father says trust providence.
Who gives a fig if you’re last or you’re first, what matters is sharing with friends.

Every person’s a potluck, where family and friends
pitch in to create a soul
Not everything fits or works perfectly,
but who says perfection’s the goal.

I have been blessed, with many good friends, folks who did the best that they could.
Together we’ve sipped on life’s bitter wine, and found most of it’s whiskey that’s good.
I have a mother and father, an annoying sister so dear,
somewhere far away there’s a woman I’ve not met, who bravely sent me here.

At the end, it doesn’t matter who brought what, why or when, not at all.
In the end what matters the most, is that you’ve lived, and loved, and shared.
Shared it all.
