This started as an apology letter to an old flame, it quickly became a song as I realized the preposterous nature of the rant I had composed. The intricacies of romance in the digital age are still a mystery to me. I think part of that comes from a childhood without the internet, or even television, my parents having elected not to have such things in our home. Arguably this is the best thing that could have happened to me in my childhood, I grew up reading books and being in love with going to the cinema, things I still enjoy.
Ani Banani is such a delightful human being and a dear friend. We’ve known each other almost as long as I’ve been playing accordion to pay the bills. She now lives in my old sailboat, and is a regular collaborator at live shows I put on. After the song was recorded it felt like it needed just a little something more. Fortunately my ridiculous pal Banjo Youngblood happened to be around, and he played a bit of banjo. Perfect.
lyrics
Well I prefer, a rockin’ chair.
Instead of liftin’ weights I’ll go wrestle a bear.
Old timey clothes are what I like to wear.
Let’s replace all the escalators with stairs.
Baby I love you,
c’mon let’s take things slow.
If you wanna be with me,
you gotta treat me like I’m 80 years old.
Twitter’s a thing, I don’t understand. beyond my command.
I hate Facebook, for makin’ plans.
The blogosphere is beyond my command.
I won’t post my food on Instagram.
I won’t use a website to propose to you,
Skype doesn’t make me feel close to you.
Online dating is a pile of poo.
A webcam’s not where I’ll take off my clothes for you.

Compelling stories that are well written, not to mention beautifully sung, accompanied by beautiful instrumentation. I found Aaron J. Shay's music under a strange set of circumstances and was instantly fascinated by it, this album contains some of my favorite songs by him. Hyphonetics
